Thomas Stephen Bowers obituary - Obituary provided by Utah Tributes

Thomas Stephen Bowers

“Ya Folla?!”

Orem

1957  -  2008

Thomas Stephen Bowers, from Orem, Utah, April 30, 1957 ~ May 4, 2008. On May 4, 2008, while crossing the Provo River, with a heavily loaded back pack, “Tom” attempted to negotiate an unexpectedly difficult part of the estuary. The evidence indicated he fell, struck his head and was unable to recover. His death was listed as an accidental drowning.

Mr. Bowers was born in Columbia Hospital, Washington, D.C., growing up in Falls Church, Virginia and Rockville, Maryland. In high school, he was an outstanding musician playing jazz drums, an interest that eventually took him around the country, spending his last eight years in Orem. Although he took the name, Tom, many years ago, he always was known endearingly as “Steve” to his father and some of his closest relatives and friends. Tom had not distinguished himself with a ‘career’ in the traditional sense, preferring to examine and enjoy life by “going his own way.” He was an individual untainted by the vicissitudes and customary pressures of daily living. Because of that, he fashioned what to some was a more enviable path. Ensconced in a peerless sense of honor, Tom/Steve unintentionally built a persona that transcended ordinary careers, that of being one of the nicest men God ever gifted to the Planet.

That is why he’ll likely never be forgotten by his friends and immediate survivors. The latter are his mother, Ellen Elizabeth Boswell; a sister Tracey Eileen Boswell and her four children: two dear uncles, Jack Bowers (Albuquerque, New Mexico); Edwin Bowers (Tequesta, Florida); three loving aunts, Carole Sullivan (Annapolis, Maryland); Bette Panich (Tucson, Arizona); June Bowers (Sarasota, Florida) and his adoring father, H. Thomas (Tom) Bowers, (Tequesta, Florida).

Graveside services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem.
