On October 24, 2009, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend Hyrum Richard Bates returned to a glorious reunion after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by his beloved wife and family.

Hyrum was born June 19, 1926 in Frances, Utah to Walter G. Bates and Grace Elizabeth Smith. He married Lura Faye Probst on January 13, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active member in the LDS Church.

Hyrum’s hobbies were gardening, fishing and he was an avid wood crafter. He served his country for many years in the military.

Hyrum is survived by his wife, Faye and 3 daughters, Lorilyn (Dean) Sigler, Glenwood Springs, CO; Denise Beth (Marlon) Bird, Pleasant Grove, UT; Amy, Kaysville; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and his brother Wallace Bates. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville Tabernacle, 198 West Center St. Friends may visit with the family members Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main, and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 at the church.
