Sherwin Hershel Larsen

Roy

1928  -  2009

Sherwin Hershel Larsen, 81, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend returned home Friday, October 23, 2009 due to complications following surgery.

He was the sixth son born to Adam James and Rose Hirschi Larsen on February 16, 1928 in Brigham City, Utah. He graduated from Logan High School and the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work.

Sherwin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an LDS mission to the Great Lakes. He served as a temple worker in the Ogden Temple and talked fondly of his time spent there.

He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.

Sherwin married Ilene Jenkins on January 7, 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had four children and were married for 48 years. After several job positions in Wyoming the family settled in Roy where they raised their family. After the passing of Ilene he married Dorothy Miller.

He was a mild mannered unassuming man with never an unkind word for anyone. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews. He had the best sense of humor and no one was a stranger.

Sherwin is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his four children, Sherlene Clark, Kathy (Henry) Thompson, Michael (Starlene) Larsen, Mark (Angie) Larsen; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; Dorothy’s five children, Cathy (Claude) Payne, Jim Miller, Dan (Debra) Miller, Bobbie (Janice) Miller, Larry (Virginia) Miller, 14 grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, wife, Ilene, and Dorothy’s grandson, Jason.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 30th at 11:00 a.m. at the Roy 16th Ward Chapel, 4524 South 2525 West.

Family and friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and on Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Roy City Cemetery.

Special thanks to the skilled doctors and nurses who cared for Sherwin at McKay-Dee Hospital and the nursing staff at Washington Terrace Rehabilitation Center, especially Lance and Natalie.
