Ralph Lavell Austin
(Pee-wee)
Layton
1924 - 2009
Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend was reunited with his wife and parents on Saturday, November 14, just one week before his eighty-fifth birthday.
He was born November 22, 1924, the son of Allen Lavell Austin and Esther Lilly Riser, in Salt Lake City, UT. He married Shirley Jackson in the LDS Manti Temple on July 18, 1947.
Ralph, a World War II veteran, served his country as a flight engineer in the Navy. He flew on a PBM search plane in the Pacific Theater.
Ralph and Shirley raised their family in San Diego, CA. He he worked 41 years as a draftsman for General Dynamics. He served in many church callings; his favorite being a stake missionary. They returned to Utah when he retired in 1991.
He loved his family and many friends. He enjoyed music, writing songs, playing his piano, art, and science. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor (which only his family could fully understand) and his warmth and ability to see the best in everyone. He will be missed.
Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Shirley. He has five surviving children, Russell (Kathy), Fruit Heights; Rolynda (Terry) Constein, Temecula, CA; Eugene (LayHoon), Bellfair, WA; Judy, Layton; Harold (Charlotte), Reno, NV; 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, with more on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Lou (Glenn) Robinson.
The family would like to thank all the medical personnel that have attended to Ralph the past years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends may meet with the family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m.
